About Us

Deborah Fernandez
President, Career Champions 

Deborah Fernandez is a Board Certified Coach (BCC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW).  Deborah has an extensive background developing and delivering value-based career management services to executives and corporate clients.  She has earned a reputation as a supportive and results-oriented partner to organizations going through major changes and has provided career services to companies including IBM, GSK, Nortel, and BB&T. Her keen business insights along with excellent coaching and facilitation skills quickly generate confidence and trust.

Prior to launching Career Champions®, Deborah was the Vice President of Career Consulting for a global career transition and talent management firm.  In that position she achieved award winning results in the areas of company performance, operational objectives, and client satisfaction. Among her numerous responsibilities, Deborah’s role included advising companies and assisting them in the design of effective yet compassionate plans for restructuring.

As a business coach, Deborah focuses on applying her expertise in the areas of executive leadership, professional development, employee engagement and organizational change.  As a career coach, Deborah works in a collaborative partnership with her clients to maximize their potential and realize their professional goals.

Deborah has a M.Ed. from North Carolina State University in Counselor Education and an undergraduate degree in Behavioral Sciences from Iona College. She is qualified to administer and interpret testing and evaluation instruments including the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, MRG’s Strategic Leadership Effectiveness Analysis (LEA) 360™ and its complementary assessment, Personal Directions, and the Birkman First Look. When faced with exceptional challenges, Deborah designs custom solutions tailored to the unique situation.

Deborah co-founded the first North Carolina chapter of the Association of Career Professionals International (ACPI) and served as the chapter’s Vice President.  She is a member of the North Carolina Counseling Association (NCCA), the North Carolina Career Development Association (NCCDA), and the Professional Association of Resume Writers (PARW). Deborah also writes a monthly column about work and careers for an online magazine.
